Santa Cruz County has an extraordinary shortage of housing for both working families of modest means and for our most vulnerable residents. The Housing Advocacy Network is a collection of organizations in Santa Cruz County dedicated to addressing this housing crisis. We will work together in an active, advocacy network to:
1) build and mobilize broad support for government policies and community solutions that will facilitate the creation and preservation of housing units that serve these populations; and
2) build and mobilize broad support for specific housing development projects whose primary focus is providing housing for these populations.
In June of 2016, 60 community leaders representing dozens of community organizations gathered to discuss the need for more effective public advocacy to address the housing affordability crisis in Santa Cruz County. Representatives from labor, business, tenants, housing builders and the health and human services sector all participated.
Out of that meeting the Santa Cruz County Housing Advocacy Network Was formed. The Housing Advocacy Network was initially formed with a membership of 29 organizations.
We are governed by an Executive Board and a Network Representative Committee. We are staffed by a team made up of staff members from some of our most active member organizations.
